Day 7
simmering
Many apologies for yesterday’s late delivery—issues with the scheduling calendar. I’ve checked all the scheduled posts, and we shouldn’t have this problem again. Thank you for your patience!
Every Sunday we’ll take a rest from active study, but we don’t want to take the pot off the stove completely. To keep it simmering, consider taking just a minute or two to pray.
These prompts are offered to help you get going, but, of course, pray about whatever’s arising…
Yahweh, I think I’m realizing something ___________
Yahweh, I’m feeling challenged to _______________
Yahweh, thank You for ______________________
Yahweh, I want more of _____________________
Yahweh, help me understand __________________
Or you might pray directly from the first seven verses of Hebrews 11.
Something like this:
Father, grow my faith as I read about these examples of faith.
Let them reveal to me the reality of what I’m hoping for. Let their examples be proof of the unseen.
Let their approval lead to my approval. Fill me with the gift of faith, monumental faith, faith people will be talking about for generations.
Every time I experience the beauty and order of your created world remind me that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.
Thank You for Abel’s example of faith. Even though he is dead, he still speaks through his faith.
Thank You for Enoch’s example of faith. I know that without faith it is impossible to please You, since the one who draws near to You must believe that You exist and that You reward those who seek You.
Help me believe.
Thank You for Noah’s example of faith. Motivate me with godly fear and make me an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
By the power of Jesus we pray,
Amen.

In reviewing my notes, Day 1's review of the chapter struck a chord - we are "strangers and aliens" - then the godly fear that Noah had to do something outlandish-looking to his neighbors like building an ark. I am challenged to not be so fearful of looking "weird" by trusting God, and doing what He commands - may God give me deeper faith to trust His goodness and wisdom and live that out.
Thank you for the "simmering" note!
In all our years of ministry we have trusted God on where we should serve. He chose where we would serve and it was better than what we eould have done on our own. He always has something better in mind.
