We Start Tomorrow!
and a prayer for today
This is your official reminder:
We start reading Hebrews 11 tomorrow morning!
All you need is
access to your email account (or Substack app)
a Bible
a pen
& a notebook
(on Tuesday you’ll need an index card or two)
Of course you’ll also need an eager and open heart. So let’s pray for that…
The following prayer is drawn from the text of Psalm 119 (a love song to God’s Word):
A Prayer for Those who Want to Read God’s Book
Our Father Who is in Heaven,
Our God Whose Spirit dwells in us,
Yahweh, Author and Animator of this living Word,How happy are those whose way of life is blameless, who walk according to Your instruction! Open our ears to hear your instruction. Happy are those who keep Your decrees and seek You with all their heart. Set our hearts on You.
We have treasured your word in our hearts (show us how to treasure Your Word in our hearts) so that we may not sin against you. Let Your Word be a strong fence, holding us in and keeping evil out.
Lord, may you be blessed; teach us your statutes... Plant Your Word in our lives, tend it, and make it grow. Let the fruit of Your Spirit in us make You happy. We rejoice in the way revealed by your decrees as much as in all riches. Show us how to be in this world And we will celebrate everything we learn. We will meditate on your precepts and think about your ways. We will go slow. We won't move on or skip past. We will stare and gaze and dig and wonder. We will delight in your statutes; We will not forget your word. Delight us, Lord. Help us hold fast and remember.
Open our eyes so that we may contemplate
wondrous things from your instruction.
Give us sight to see the unseen.
Surprise us with Your glory.We are resident aliens on earth;
do not hide your commands from us.
We're not from here.
We need your Word to know the way. We are continually overcome
with longing for your judgments.
You know what's good. You know what's right.
All we want is what You want.Satisfy us with Your Word.
Amen.
